Bio
French cellist Christophe Mathias share his activity between performing and teaching, between France and Germany. His membership with the contemporary Ensemble Interface bring him to appear in most leading avant-garde festivals, such as Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik Darmstadt, Ultraschall Berlin, Wien Modern, June in Buffalo NY (USA). He often gives workshop, as well for composers as for public, reading sessions and educational projects. His membership in Ensemble Alternance and Ensemble Bloom define him as a most valuable and trusted cellist. Christophe Mathias regularly perform with ensemble and orchestras such as Ensemble Modern Frankfurt, Ensemble Resonanz Hamburg, Ensemble l’Itinéraire Paris, Orchestre National de l’Opéra de Paris.
A member of the 2008/09 International Ensemble Modern Academy in Frankfurt, he performed as a member of the Lucerne Festival Academy under the direction of Pierre Boulez in 2007/09.
Christophe Mathias’s principal teachers include Marc Coppey and Philippe Muller in Paris and Jean-Guihen Queyras in Stuttgart. He furthered his studies in masterclasses with Christoph Henkel, Anner Bylsma, Dmitry Ferschtmann and Rohan de Saram.
